Over the Limit Under Arrest 2008
Posted by: ptl.hampton on Thursday, July 31, 2008 - 08:14 AM
Hillsdale Police News

Hillsdale Police Officers will be participating in the statewide "Over the Limit Under Arrest" campaign beginning on August 15 and ending on September 1st 2008.  Local and State law enforcement officers will conduct sobriety check points, looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.

A concentrated national effort, the campaign helps raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement and public education tools. Including posters, banners and mobile video display signs. Launched nationally in 1999, the program works to combat drunk driving during some of the busiest travel times of the year.

"New Jersey's drunk driving laws are among the toughest in the nation", said Pam Fischer, Director of the Division of Highway Traffic Safety. "This initiative increases public awareness not only about the serious fines and penalties drunk drivers can face, but the grave danger these motorists pose to all individuals on the road."

Impaired drivers kill nearly 18,000 people on our nation's roads each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly 97 percent of Americans view drinking and driving by others as a threat to their families and themselves. In 2007, 205 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related crashes on New Jersey highways. That number represents 28 percent of the 724 traffic fatalities report in the State. In addition, 82 of those alcohol-related fatalities occurred during the summer travel season.

As a participating agency the Hillsdale Police Department offers the following advice:

If you plan to drink, choose a designated driver before going out.
Take mass transit, a taxicab or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
Spend the night where the activity is held.
Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
Always buckle up, every ride. It's your best defense against an impaired driver.

New Fingerprinting Guidelines
Posted by: ptl.hampton on Thursday, May 22, 2008 - 09:09 AM
Hillsdale Police NewsAs of May 14 2008, The Hillsdale Police Department will no longer be performing fingerprint services for Employment and Personal Record Requests. This comes from a directive by the New Jersey State Police advising that all fingerprint processing for Personal Record Requests and Employment Purposes are now being conducted by the state contract vendor, Sagem Morpho Inc. This is done due to the fact that all fingerprints for Employment and Personal Record Requests are being performed on a live scan fingerprint device.

Please Be Advised that the Hillsdale Police Department Still Fingerprints Residents for Firearms Permits and also for Federal Background Checks.

Please follow the instructions  on how to contact the New Jersey State Police and how to schedule an appointment.
