HPD Completes 2008 GDL Enforcement and Education Campaign

The Hillsdale Police Department in conjunction with various law enforcement agencies throughout the state conducted a federally funded GDL(Graduated Driver's License) enforcement and education campaign from April 7-25th 2008. The funds were dispersed to towns via the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety. During the course of the program. Hillsdale Police Officers were responsible for dilligently enforcing the NJ GDL Requirements and other assorted motor vehicle offenses.

The purpose of this program was to enforce and to educate teen drivers about the GDL Program. The Pascack Valley School District includes cirriculum in the driver's education program to specifically deal with the NJ GDL Program.  








Below are the results of the Hillsdale Police Department:
 Total Number of Summonses Issued 91
 Number of Teen  Drivers Contacted 69

Specfic breakdown of Summonses/Arrests:
 GDL Violations (39:3-13.4) 8
 Seat Belt Violations (39:3-76.2F) 7
 Suspended Drivers License(39:3-40) 1
 Uninsured Motorrist(39:6B-2) 1
 Misc. Moving and Non-Moving Offenses 46
 Use of Cellular Telephone(39:4-97.3) 28
 Drug Arrests *Not Accounted for in Summons Total  2

2008 5th Grade D.A.R.E. Graduation

Hillsdale PD DARE ProgramOn 4/14/2008 the Hillsdale Police Department in cooperation with the George White School held their annual D.A.R.E. program graduation ceremonies. The graduation was the conclusion of the 9 week D.A.R.E. Program conducted by members of the Hillsdale Police Department. One hundred forty three 5th graders participated in the D.A.R.E. Program this year. Students spent their time  learning and discussing  the dangers of Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco, Peer Pressure and Avoiding Violence. As a part of the D.A.R.E. Program each student was required to complete an essay outlining what they had learned in the program.

The Hillsdale Police Department has been involved with D.A.R.E education and other school programs for over 20 years. Currently the Hillsdale Police Department has 5 active D.A.R.E. Officers and more information about  D.A.R.E can be found here.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:


Chief Chip Stalter announced the apprehension of twelve (12) undocumented Mexican immigrants during the early morning hours of Wednesday,  March 12, 2008. Their arrest came about as a result of an investigation conducted by the Hillsdale Patrol Division, the Hillsdale Detective Bureau, and the United States Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.).

Wierimus Rd Construction

Traffic AdvisoryIn an effort to continue to provide superior performance and reliability, PSE&G has identified the need to install a new gas main o­n Wierimus Rd. The work will commence o­n or about March 24th, 2008 and will continue for approximately 12 to 14 weeks.

Work hours will be from 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday with no night or weekend work anticipated at this time.

Any excavation work performed will be restored by temporary means immediately upon work completion to allow for necessary ground settlement.

It shall be necessary to schedule an appointment with the residential homeowners in the area in order to transition customers from the old gas main to the new o­ne.  In addition there may also be brief gas disruptions while the new service is installed. PSE&G service personnel will re-light any gas appliance requiring this attention after the restoration of gas service to the home.

PSE&G will notify residents in writing with instructions o­n how to contact them when it is time to replace their gas service.If residents have any questions please contact Mr. Larry Cleaver at 201-967-5010 between the hours of 7:30-8:00am and 3:30pm to 4:00pm or leave a voice message after 4:00pm. HPD Remembers Barbara Sapienza PVHS Principal

LineOfDutyWhile this story is not about nor involves the Hillsdale Police Department; many Hillsdale Police Officers are graduates of Pascack Valley Regional High School and as such we mourn the loss of  Dr. Sapienza.

The Following was written by Dr. Benedict Tantillo, Superintendent and Mr. Tom DeMaio, Acting Principal, PVHS:

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Dr. Barbara Sapienza, Principal of Pascack Valley High School, has passed away due to complications from knee surgery.

Dr. Sapienza, a dedicated teacher, mentor, colleague, friend and principal, devoted forty years of service to the Pascack Valley Regional High School District and surrounding communities. As principal of the Pascack Valley High School for the past fourteen years, Dr. Sapienza inspired teachers, students, and families with her enthusiasm and love for education. As we mourn her loss, we will honor her accomplishments by carrying o­n the proud traditions she estabished at Pascack Valley.

School will be in session tomorrow. State HSPA testing will proceed as scheduled.

Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about our loss. Counselors will be available, if needed, for our students throughout the day.
