The Hillsdale Police Department website, www.hillsdalepolice.com, was founded in January 2002.  Under the direction of P.O. Adam Hampton and P.O. Jeff Angermeyer, www.hillsdalepolice.com has become a resourceful link to the Hillsdale Police and all of its services, recording an average of nearly 10,000 unique hits per month.

This website is updated often and it is a useful medium for Boro residents who are online and want to learn about any number of HPD services or information.  Below is a general summary of the website, and the content found herein, to assist visitors in locating topics.  Specific questions or police emergencies should naturally be directed to the Police Desk or to 9-1-1.  For Non-Emergency Requests or Questions contact the Police Desk at (201)664-4200 twenty-four hours a day.  For Emergencies - Police, Fire, or Medical do not hesitate, but contact 9-1-1 immediately.  Questions related to the website may be directed to either mailto:ptl.hampton@hillsdalepolice.com or mailto:ptl.angermeyer@hillsdalepolice.com .

Navigating This Website

This website is divided into several sections.  The main webpage has articles posted down the center, while the respective margins to the left and right contain clickable links organized alphabetically under various headings.  The centered articles are brief stories intended to provide quick information about current events, alerts, or general info relevant for website users--most often tailored for Boro residents.  These stories are arranged vertically from most recent to least recent.  These stories remain posted on the center of the webpage while they are timely and replaced as new articles are posted.  Each story has a specific graphic attached to it; each graphic will identify the type of article it is.  Some of these stories will have a Read More clickable located in its footer.  Clicking Read More will direct the user to a more detailed version of that same story.

The margins contain permanent articles that describe static department information or services.  On the left side of the webpage, under the heading Hillsdale Police, there are nine categories:

  • Department Information - general data about the department and personnel
  • Department Services - details almost every department service available to citizens
  • In School Programs - describes the HPD's education initiatives (e.g. D.A.R.E. )
  • Municipal Court - description of the Court and link to Summons Pay-OnLine Site
  • Outside Organizations - affiliates and other useful resources for residents
  • Records Bureau - information about copies of reports and online request forms
  • See It, Hear It, Report It - useful tips on how and when to contact the police
  • Town Ordinances - details the common Boro Ordinances residents should know
  • Traffic Bureau - articles about traffic-related issues

The margin on the right side of the webpage contains several headings, including: WHAT's NEW, Important Info, Past HPD News, and In Memoriam

The WHAT's NEW heading is a listing of the most recent newsworthy articles posted to this website.  These articles remain in under this heading for a short period of time.  Thereafter, they are appropriately moved under the most closely related heading appropriate to that topic.

The Important Info heading contains a static list of urgent reminders and noteworthy items that residents and motorist of Hillsdale should bear in mind.

The HPD Past News is a listing of departnment and/or Boro wide news that was formerly located under the WHATs NEW heading.  These articles typically describe recent good news stories about the HPD and its personnel.

The In Memoriam section is divided into several areas:

  • general articles about the In Memoriam topic
  • "The Ultimate Sacrifice" -- discussing the dangers of policing in America and New Jersey
  • In the Line of Duty 2005 - chronological articles about fallen NJ police officers in 2005
  • In the Line of Duty 2004 - chronological articles about fallen NJ police officers in 2004
  • In the Line of Duty 2003 - chronological articles about fallen NJ police officers in 2003

Finally, also located on the right side of the webpage, is a real-time weather icon that reflects the current weather conditions in Hillsdale, NJ.  As well, a listing of the most pertinent computer security alerts are posted and automatically updated below the weather center.
