Snow Storm: February 26, 2010 The Hillsdale Police Department has been active since this storm began, handling calls for service, monitoring the weather, and working with local resources to keep traffic flowing through town. Additionally, updates have been provided to the public via this website and via Twitter.com.
The entire Bergen County area has been affected by an ongoing snow storm that the National Weather Service has described as a Nor'easter. Total snowfall is now expected to range between 10"- 20", depending upon the storm's final track. Snowfall will likely continue until Friday evening, adding an additional 3" - 6" of snow. Snow will possibly even continue through Saturday morning.
The current Winter Storm Warning has been extended through Saturday, ending at 6AM, February 27, 2010.

Resolved Issues: > Several road issues, stranded automobiles, and fell trees have been abated.
Weather Data: > Approximately 8"-10" of snow has already fallen on Bergen County. > High wind gusts are expected. > Snow and wind combined will cause near-blizzard conditions. > Snow drifting and poor visibility is to be expected. > Snow will continue today, adding another 3" - 6" of snow to current accumulations. > Light snow flurries will continue through Saturday morning, but without any accumulations.
General: > NJ Transit has SUSPENDED bus service. Consult njtransit.com for more info. > NJ Transit rail service (Pascack Valley Line) is on or close to schedule. > All State of New Jersey government offices have a delayed opening today. > All Hillsdale public schools are closed 2/26/10. > A Snow Emergency has been declared for Hillsdale, New Jersey. > ALL STREET PARKING IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED during a Snow Emergency. > Overnight parking is prohibited between 2AM-6AM on every street in Hillsdale.
Reminders: > Do not call Police Headquarters to inquire about school closings in Hillsdale. > Visit the school districts' websites for more information about school closings. > Pursuant to Hillsdale borough ordinance, residents are required to clear the sidewalk in front of their home within 24 hours of the end of snowfall. This law is in place to protect pedestrians, especially school children who will be walking to/from school when school reopens.
Suggestions: > Avoid traveling during the snow storm. > If necessary, first remove snow and ice from your vehicle before traveling. > Never pour hot water onto a car windshield if it is iced over. > Bring a snow brush, a shovel, and rock salt with you when traveling in the snow. > Do not park on streets so that snow plows can clear snowy roadways. > Yield to snow plows in traffic and never tailgate a snow plow. > If a fire hyrdant is near your home, and you are capable, please clear it of snow.
